So yea, it's a browser-based Java game where the world consists of cubes.

It's in alpha stage with currently with the only gamemode being sandbox. It will eventually have a survival (amongst others) mode.

At its current stage, you create and destroy various blocks in either a single- or multiplayer environment. It's got rudimentary physics, which means that sand and gravel blocks fall straight down and liquid cubes (water & lava) spreads by duplicating itself to an adjacent spot next to and below itself.

The multiplayer servers are hosted by other players or dedicated machines using the server files. Playing the full game is free until it gets done. At the moment, you can pre-purchase the full game (which will include more gamemodes, zombies, and more!). As a perk for pre-purchasing and supporting the lone developer, you're given the ability to modify your character and upload a custom skin.

In Minecraft, you can turn this:

into this:

Despite its flaws, it's a fun way to spend some time.

My friend and I are creating a world on an island. I just thought I would throw some pictures up here so you guys could see, and perhaps get inspired. :] It's SMP.
Our main idea is to connect the whole island with a train-system.. So we're building everything, making it ready for when Notch decides to fix the carts. :P

This is the entrance to our underwater railway station, which is also our /home.

This is a tower, which has a station inside it. On top of it is a constantly burning torch of wood.

This is our super green-house dome, which took fucking forever to create with that amount of glass needed! :P What you can see coming out of it, is our railway track.

The entrance to the bottom of the mountain, seen from the inside.

This should be a dragon's head, which drools lava. :P

Our field inside the dome. We haven't bothered to plant that much, as we don't take any damage. :P Underneath the layer of dirt, there's a room, which is the length x heigth of the field, and then 1 tall. This room is filled with water, so all the crops has water directly 1 block beneath them.

Our stash-room.

Back entrance to our mountain, with the lava-drool pouring down into a waterfall.

Lastly, our cartograph picture.

We have huge system of mines underneath our mountain, but they are boring and ugly, so didn't show those.

Why thank you. :3
You should have seen how it looked in the beginning. We had no freaking idea how to make a dragon's head in cubes. :P Look horrible. It's still not that pretty. XD

Minecraft is amazing, but it got old quite fast after playing a bit too much. Still good when I'm on my laptop in the middle of nowhere, keeps you occupied for hours, days, weeks, dare I say years...

Minecraft is good because you don't need to install it. I run it an college when I have nothing better to do or am waiting on files/installs.

I am bored of Minecraft, and haven't even bought it o.O

Which means that if you bought it, you wouldn't be bored.
The only reason you're bored of it, is because you haven't played it. ;) Everyone thinks that before they try it. Even my friends, who were die hard haters of it, ended up buying it and loving it.

I've played it, but not bought the full game as I got bored. :(

I guess it's more fun to play online.. But I hate the idea of the zombie skeleton things destroying stuff.

Only ghasts will be able to destroy stuff (So far) and they're only found in Hell.
