Hi,

Just wants your opinions on some of the major forum softwares (both free and that requires a license).

- vBulletin
- PHPBB3 (we're using this now)
- SMF
- Invision Power Board (IPB)

Mention any others if you like. Just want to see if our opinions match, so I can spend some time playing around with either SMF or phpBB3! :3:

Too bad converting from SMF to phpBB3 is a bitch :tinfoil:

Think what I want to try to do with the phpBB3 template is to implement some more ajax :3:

Can I just add something I have only just found out.

phpBB3 is currently the most secure forum software out at the moment. According to security firm Secuna, it currently has 0 unpatched flaws, whereas vB has 6, SMF has 7 and MyBB has 24 security holes..

VBulletin FTW. If you switch to PHPBB3 Karl... I just cant explain how fail even the best PHPBB3 forum would be. Just an opinion.

The forum is phpBB3.

Also the 5 largest forums in the world run phpBB. (Only recently found this out).

4chan actually runs "Yotsuba", a heavily modified closed-source version of Futallaby. And Aprilon needs a *chan. :v Dibs on Karlchan.net

What's your opinion on XenForo? It's currently in alpha, http://xenforo.com/community/ is running the latest build. :v

I'd stuck to one of the better know forum software's, the community only seems slightly more active than this one, but for good FOSS software you need thriving community.

Also, what is really wrong with the forum we have at the moment? It works and we are all used to it.

Personally I think that SMF is best.

Did I say something was wrong with it? I'm simply just asking for an opinion.
This thread isn't titled "what forum software should we change to". :v

This is commercial software, developed by ex-vBulletin developers.

I tried it once, never really liked it :v
