Hi, just wondering if anyone wants a voIP server to use for voice com and shizzle, and if they would use it or not. Also what kind of software you guys want to use (ventrilo, mumble/murmur, teamspeak and the likes).
Please note that we'll be hosting this server on my linux so ventrilo wouldn't be so good since it's restricted to 8 users.

I really don't see why we need one of these, we can just use the microphone feature in-game that was implanted for speaking by Valve.
I don't see why people are fascinated by thse VoIP programs. If we're talking about gaming here, all of what I've said already is valid.
If we're talking about basic chatting, then its still a bit crappy as its limited to 8 slots.
That's why I wanted others opinions, if they wanted Mumble or TeamSpeak instead since these are more or less unlimited slots. Idiot.

You're giving me the impression that you didn't read through the whole opening post.

i believe vent would suit the best, high quality voice, (unlike noobie team speak), its more used for wow guilds, when ts is used for COd4 clans , but i would pick vent over all cause its the best

TS is shit, even the newest version. Also, TS is like the national voice app for germans. Therefore, vent > *

TS is shit,
of course

TS beats vent if its for mass users as vent falls down trying to support such high quality to too many so for one game i play TS beats vent hands down, especially when you're trying to deal with 500 people in a single voice channel
Vent is better for most stuff but like was said if its purely for games i already use the TF2 voice comm's built in and if i'm idle i have other stuff on in the background

Mumble is the new black.

Why is ventrilo only restricted to 8 players? I've seen tons of ventrilo servers where the limit was 50, at least.

Those Ventrilo servers are sold by authorized resellers/people with a license. We don't, I don't want to spend money on one.

Well. As many have pointed out, yes, Ventrilo is by far the program with the most quality, and it's by far my favourite voIP program, but as we are only able to get 8 slots, that wouldn't be that great.
TS is another solution, only problem is that I don't actually like TS. It's great if you're a million users on one server, but if you want sound quality and a program that has lots of customization, this isn't it in my oppinion. I have not heard about the other voIP programs.
I post another suggestion. My Ventrilo server has closed down due to me not paying for it. (It's on another email, so I always miss the 7 day notice mail, so it ends up being closed. Im thinking of reopening it, and I could easily throw in an additional 10 slots, so it's 20.
It's hosted in Denmark I think, and I have had people on it from both Asia and USA, which both had 10-40 ping, even with 12 people on at the same time. (Previous vent only had 12 slots)
It's 25€ for 20 slots for 6 months. I would probably pay them all, but only if people would actually use it. Because if not, I would just buy a 10(or 12) slot again. Of course contributions would be welcomed, but by far not required. It's almost nothing.
Then Karl, (and others if decided by Karl and I), could have adminship.
Think about it.

I just don't think many people will use it right now.
Start with the 8 slot one, if it gets filled up, we can always expand.

Well I have supplied a 10 slot ventrilo for like.. 1-2 months, and I have only seen 1 or 2 people on it for an hour at a time or something.

Read Maniac's post on the previous page. We could expand using ventrilo.

Is it really a good idea? I mean, if playing competetively and stuff then sure, it's pretty useful, but doesn't it just split apart the people using it ingame and the people that use an external program? I'm mainly thinking TF2 here, since I don't know if GM has the same voice stuff.
Then again it's useful for basically everything, so I guess one doesn't have to limit themselves to one game either.
