Today i got my very first memory error relating to not having enough while trying to open a 9300x13000 pixel image, is sad day

Get more then. Don't be afraid to scale vertically. 
RAM is dirt cheap at the moment, not sure quite what is going on.

Oh yeah, but you might need 64-bit if you already hit the limit of 3GB. (If you have 32-bit)

Yeah i already have 4GM installed so 3.25GB useable so adding more RAM won't help, guess it really is time to finally upgrade to a 64-bit OS, guess i'll look in to that after i save for upgrades to my PC, only £140 to go >.<

Funny how I have never had any problems with my 3gb PC3-12800 RAM DDR2 RAM.

lol in this case its a picture of a painted picture of a guy from castlevania, one of the games, its actually a pretty detailed image and i'm assuming it was a poster at some point hence the massive size
