srsly, after the many changes that will come, will it be that easy to use the old files of the server?
the new height limit for the world...i see people running around for generating new chunks , building new towns which will be end mostly like the other (ghost)towns....

so yeah...what would be the the worst and the best for you

best things:
new items
the new gameplay (food, xp bar?)
finally more farming options <3

wort things:
unfortunately, running around to generate new chunks if the new items arent available in the old places (remember lapiz >.<)
more ghost towns (why cant you do little outposts :S)
new height limit wont work on the old map (blood help :P?)
map goes corrupt

Leave it to notch to figure it out.
He wouldn't destroy everyones savegames and worlds.

We could setup another minecraft server, but with a travel limit and RPG theme/elements to make cities more populated.

I would really enjoy that Blood. That would be cool.

I second this. I also know people who would like a new server to build on. And I like the whole RPG idea!

As long as the 1st server is still around and active, I'll be fine with the new one.
an Aprilon II lets nickname it? idk, bout whichever, I don't wanna abandon everything
the members have done on the current server.

You would be able to go back in time, and change something, and then the game would spin off in a different universe.

Of course you would need a pretty good computer to run an infinite amount of servers.

ManIAc, you've created a time paradox!
You can't go changing the future like that!

If we want a travel limit, we could just delete all the blocks in the chunks around the borders of the map; however big we decide to make it. Then just set up a protection barrier on the empty chunks so no one can build out to them. We could probably turn the edges of the map into ocean biomes to make a sort of "edge of the world" for the server.

For people who've build far out into the map, we could move their stuff closer using MCEdit, unless that sounds too tedious to do...

Problem is you'd have to check every chunk since our logblock only goes back to may
That might take a while and allot of effort.

And even with all that, there would atleast be one guy: "dude, wheres my house"
Using MCEdit also has its problems, the server needs to be stopped for every minor or major edit.
"Sorry you 43 players, but X is missing 2 stories on his summer home he never uses but still wants to keep so were gonna shutdown for half an hour trying to import everything." :v
