Greeeeeeetings!
I just thought that I would point out my rage against random crits, and suggest a server-change. :3: Thought there would be no harm in suggesting.

In my oppinion, the random crits ruins the game a little. Because then it changes from: the skilled kills the less skilled, to: The lucky kills the less lucky, which is by far, not what I think is great. Im sure that the reason they added the random crits in the beginning, is to make Team Fortress 2 avaible for everyone, even those who are less good, so even they can get a kill once in a while, and have a laugh, which I understand. I just find it anoying that im eg. shooting someone as heavy, and because of my surprise attack, he only has some low chance of survival, (everything's happening in seconds here), but because he's lucky enough to pull off a lucky random crit, im the one that dies, which I can get kinda infuriated by at times.

What im suggesting is to either completely remove random crits, or at least make a vote for it at map start. I have played on some server earlier on called: Lethal-Zone, which at the beginning of a map will ask the player: "Do you want random criticals disabled?" Where you either vote yes or no, and then the majority wins, which is usually yes. (So they are disabled)

Anyways, this is just an idea which I thought I would air with you. Write your thoughts. :)
Many thanks

I beg to disagree. Valve has stated themselves that after the crit update: http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=2221
That:
Critical hits are more skill / performance based.

Also,
Critical hit chance

Standard weapons have a 2% base chance to critical, while melee weapons have a 15% chance. Added on top of that chance is an additional number that increases linearly from 0% to 10% based on total damage done by the player in the last 20 seconds, with a cap of 800 damage. For example, having only killed a 200 health soldier will add a 2.5% chance to critical, totaling at 4.5%.
Among those weapons that trigger randomly, critical hit chance is polled differently based on the type of weapon. Single-shot weapons, which, for example, include Shotguns, the Revolver, and the Rocket Launcher, roll the chance to crit with every shot. Thus, every click of the shotgun will have a 2% chance to launch a flurry of critical pellets, assuming no previous damage done. Rapid-fire weapons, however, which include the Minigun, Pistol, and Flamethrower, check for critical hits once a second. With weapons like these, a successful crit roll results in all shots for the next two seconds being marked as critical.

While crits might play a role in 1v1 battles, when you look at the big picture each team is getting crits and thus it is balanced and justified.

While when a noob will occasionally kill you with a random crit, the surge you get when you fire that one crit sticky at the entire blu team pushing the kart and blowing them all to bits is brilliant. :sax:

Also most people prefer to play with crits, I used to think I was one of them until the old server I played on (ZBS) eliminated crits and without an element of luck the game was suddenly less exciting.

Crits contribute to the good o'l chaotic and hectic gameplay tf2 is known for and must stay on aprilon! ;)

Although the voting idea thing never hurts but from my experience 90% of the time people vote it on anyways.

Well, sadly I disagree, but then again, that's why I suggested it. :P But no harm done, it's not like I will run away from aprilon dynasty just because of that, I might just burst into rage from time to time because some lucky newbie oneshots me with his first shot. D:

But yeah, I know how the crits work exactly, it's just normal for everyone to be around those 3-5% most of the time, so it doesn't really swing that much up and down, except of you have a medic of course.

I have experience the quite opposite, but that might be different from server to server. =]

Ah well! Thanks for the short considderation. :P

I agree with Goose. Also, when I joined the lethal servers the random crits were ALWAYS enabled. Besides that, crits also need to be aimed if you want a good hit. Yes it can be unlucky sometimes, but thats the game. If you want 100% fairplay please go play chess or something. :chef:
