A little help from chaoslava and i was able to get gmod (its currently on sale for 4.99€) I think ive tried it before, spawning some weird stuff and whatnot.

Plenty of servers out there to join, with different gamemodes and all. You really should try server jumping one time, and join servers that aren't Sandbox. I find gamemodes such as Zombie Survival and similar amusing, and they're entertaining.

Im currently just trying to join yours, but ive been stuck on "retrieving server info" for like 10 minutes or more.

You shouldn't wait 10 minutes. It may have crashed, so you would be better off doing another attempt. The time to connect shouldn't be more than 2-4 minutes depending on the server load and if you have a good computer.

My computer should be more than enough for any source game :x

I tried to connect again and i still got stuck there.

Never underestimate GMod, its a true stress test for machines and its a server killer if not done properly :)

I understand that if a lot of props are spawned in my vicinity i should just face downwards in order to not crash, but does that really matter when i just try to join a server?

Depends because your PC has to render each prop thats already been spawned so if there are say 1000 props spawned it might take you ages to join etc, 1000 is a random number i pulled from my ass btw

Actually, there was a problem with the server, it didn't want to accept connections anymore however it did not send any message to the client to disconnect so they were all just connecting without any progress. I don't know what was causing this, but I'm pretty sure it's because of its uptime (no crashes, no restarts) etcetera.

bought it the day before the sale :O , anyways still worth it but I played for about an hour and then realized I didn't have the time nor ability to make something awesome. I downloaded a few addons and the TF2 weapons and have just been having fun with random npc battles, battling Hl2 characters with sticky bombs is quite fun.

Try building some basic things first;

Forts (With winch drawbridge), Cars, Mingebag traps, Cranes, Boats, etc...

Then when you feel confident start with simple wire stuff.

Tutorials on YouTube and the GMod wiki are excellent places to learn.

garrysmod.org. Plenty of shit to download there, just search for TF2 there. Also, it uses torrents for files over 1MB.

download wiremod, tf2 sweps, the phoenix SVN and a few other things you come across that interest you. garrysmod.org is pretty good for that, you have to torrent the files though.

I've been pretty inactive on GMOD, I'll try to fit some gmod hours into the weekend, but I'm too busy with schoolwork and tf2 :P
