YAY, turns out the support guy was failing. My domain WHAS free for life. So it's back again!!
Alright let's get to the point.
I ordered a lifetime free domain name at my host 1 year ago, together with 3 years of hosting.
The renewal date was 18 march, 8:11 AM.
It's now 20 march and they say i have to pay $14.98 to renew it.
It was a lifetime free domain name, and now i have to pay again?! WTF?! seriously?
Is this normal for webhosts?
The host made hosting offers cheaper and got a new policy for domain names, i bought it BEFORE the new policy.

Yes. Hosts can be horribly unfair, but it will be in their ToS which you "read" and agreed to.
I much prefer having my own VPS or Server.

The thing about a VPS or a full blown dedicated server is that they're WAY more expensive than a typical web hosting package. They're not really that ideal for a general personal website.

Just looking at that site makes me not trust it. I use godaddy, sure its a bit expensive but you pay a one time fee for whatever time length you choose. When everything is said and done, its like $50 for a decent hosting/domain package yearly for me, which is not that bad considering it has everything I need to plug and play.
